The Launch of a Voice Over artist

OK, so it's time to get that idea into action. It's been nagging at me for years and if I do nothing, guess what? nothing happens. So this is it, decision made: I will become a Voice Over artist and/ or actor, and that's that! Good, fine; so now what?

Well, that's what this is all about. Getting started. What the hell do I do?

Starting a new project is exciting and scary at the same time. I never have fears about my ability to be able to do it, whatever it is, I always like diving in and seeing where the road takes me. The fear is doing it right so that it's a success. I don't like to fail, but then if you read and listen to podcasts from successful people, who failed many many times, failure is what made them who and what they are today. That means I will fail at some point, or many points. Fine. I'm mentally prepared for that now. As long as I do what I think is the best I can do and just keep going then I will get there. The question is, where the heck am I going?

I think this is the first port of call then. What is Voice Over? Where can I see myself going within the industry? What can I expect to achieve and how do I get there?

As I write this, I have to confess I'm kind of backtracking a little here. I've wanted to Blog and Video Log my progress from the start. But to be honest when I started, I was not familiar with how exactly I would go about doing that - how to blog, how to make and edit a video, how to set up a YouTube channel even! So that's something that I've had to pick up and continue to learn as I go along. That said I have made some progress and can at least now start blogging and I have a YouTube channel on the rise and will launch soon. What that means is, I've learnt how to film myself with my phone and edit using as simple a video editor I could find!

So let me tell you a little bit about myself: I'm Richard Emmitt, I'm 48 years old, male, English from the UK, I have an 8-5 Mon-Fri job as a Chief Storeman - which I really enjoy by the way, and I have tinnitus in my left ear which causes deafness, although ironically I can hear a loud ringing sound quite clearly all day long! I've had it for 15 years and trying to get it handled is another issue which I may address at a later point because I don't know if this will have an impact on my Voice Over. Going into this endeavour Self-Employed, I can at least know I will be an equal opportunities employer and can make all the adjustments I need for myself, (which incidentally is currently zero).

I have a beautiful Hungarian girlfriend who is behind me 100% on making this career path happen and I'll get her involved in some way. For now, it's all about learning and making choices.

Alright, I think that will do for a start! I actually got something written down. Good. Now I have to continue. It's not that I'm lazy, it's just working out what to do and when to do it. In order to Blog or Vlog, you need to be doing something to Blog about right? Well, that's what I've been doing and that's what I'll be revealing in my future Blogs and soon to be launched Vlog channel.

So till then, enjoy your day and be inspired.

Richard.
